Even Lance Armstrong has weighed in on the matter, which may make things a little sticky for the UAE.

Now, we are not saying that Dubai does not have a real problem on its hands. It has one of the highest air pollution rates in the world. It also has some of the most polluted water bodies in the world. However, we are wondering why the government of Dubai is suddenly about to spend millions of dollars on a fancy new turf for football. The other concern is with regards to the safety of the people who will be using this turf. Will there be adequate lighting on the pitch so that they can see one another easily in the dark? Will there be sufficient railing on the side of the pitch so that the players cannot slip off?

All these concerns should be addressed very carefully. Surely the UAE can do a better job than that? Surely they can guarantee that the players are playing on an even surface?
